    School Wide Notices

     

    • Lunar New Year, Monday February 8  
      There is no school on Monday February 8th.

     

    • Respect for All Week - Feb 9 - Feb 12
      The NYC DOE launched the citywide Respect For All program in 2007 to build the capacity of staff and students to actively promote a community of inclusion in each of our schools. AFSE will be participating in this year's Respect for All Week with different themes and activities.

    • AFSE celebrated its first Student Recognition event of the year.  The following students were recognized for making positive contributions to the AFSE school community: 
      Grade 9: Destiny H., Luke N., Nawal I., Jordan M., Emmanuel H., Francis C.

    • Family Opportunity - Saturday, March 12
      Riverbank State Park will hold a free college fair from 12 to 4 p.m. at Riverbank State Park, 145th St. and Riverside Drive in Manhattan. Middle and high school students are welcome to attend to learn about admissions, the SAT exam and financial aid and to hear from representatives of over 60 colleges.     9th Grade

    • Algebra Mock Regents - Wednesday 2/10
      Freshmen will take an Algebra mock Regents exam on Wednesday, February 10 from 10:00AM-1:00PM as a benchmark to measure progress towards the June 2016 examination they will take as a graduation requirement. Please note that normal classes will be held Periods 1, 5, 6, and 7.

    • Living Environment Mock Regents - Thursday 2/11
      Freshmen will take a Living Environment mock Regents exam on Thursday, February 11 from 10:00AM-1:00PM as a benchmark to measure progress towards the June 2016 examination they will take as a graduation requirement. Please note that normal classes will be held Periods 1, 5, 6, and 7.

    10th Grade

    • January iMentor Event - This Tuesday, 2/9
      Please ensure your child attends this Tuesday's iMentor event from 5:30-7:30 in the cafeteria. We encourage your child to take advantage of study hall from 3:30-5:30 prior to the event. As usual, dinner will be served.
       
    • Heels for Success
      Heels for Success is a one-day summer program to help academically-talented, rising sophomores and juniors prepare for college. Over the course of the day, students will learn techniques for approaching the ACT, explore the Carolina campus and its wide-ranging academic opportunities, learn how to manage the college application process, and connect with other outstanding students from across the country.     • Geometry Mock Regents - Wednesday 2/10
      All sophomores will take a Geometry mock Regents exam on Wednesday, February 10 from 10:00AM-1:00PM as a benchmark to measure progress towards the June 2016 examination they will take as a graduation requirement. Please note that normal classes will be held Periods 1, 5, 6, and 7.

     

    11th Grade

    • AFSE's SAT Prep Program with Ivy Key
      The First SAT Prep session with Ivy Key will begin on Thursday, February 11 from 3:30-6:00. Juniors were accepted into the program based on attending the registration event this Wednesday and bringing in the signed Commitment Form. Juniors were notified by email if they were accepted. Any Juniors who are still interested must email Ms. Mac and will be placed on the wait list.

     

    • Heels for Success

    12th Grade

    • January iMentor Event - This Tuesday, 2/9

    • January Goals - File Your Taxes and Complete FAFSA! - The two most important next steps are to file your 2015 taxes and complete the FAFSA. Th epriority deadline for completeing your FAFSA was February 1. Please make sure it is completed ASAP!

    • Senior Portrait Packages - Your child may access and order Senior Portraits if he or she is up-to-date with Senior Dues. Each senior should contribute $75 towards Senior Dues by the end of January. A balance statement is being mailed home this week. Once your child is current with dues, he or she will receive an email with login information for Senior Portraits and access to the order form. Please see the attached Senior Portrait Package options.
