Mr. Decherd

Ari Decherd has been a musician since 1987. He attended the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and the City College of New York as an undergrad, and received his MA in music and music education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

As an educator, he has taught private lessons, percussion ensembles, marching bands, drumlines, chamber groups, concert bands, jazz bands, music history, and composition. Teaching in Oregon, Washington, and New York, his students have won individual and ensemble state championships, as well as the Drum Corps International Division III World Championship and several music scholarships. In 2015, Mr. Decherd became a VH1 Save the Music grantee, and he was honored the next year with a further grant at VH1's annual Musically Mastered event.

As a freelance percussionist, he has performed with the Rose City Chamber Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Third Angle New Music Ensemble, Ensemble 212, LOW G!, and HBO, among others.

Mr. Decherd is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), the Vic Firth Education Team, the National Association for Music Education, and the New York State School Music Association.
