Ms. Prior-Grosch Bio

Ariadne Prior-Grosch developed her passion for teaching at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an ESL tutor for recent undocumented immigrants and as a global initiatives presenter in North Carolina public schools. At UNC, she earned her B.S. in Environmental Science and participated in the Carolina Student-Athlete Leadership Academy as a captain of the varsity fencing team. During college, she taught 7th-grade mathematics and trained teachers to use computers in Namibia, Africa as a WorldTeach volunteer. After college, she led marine ecology field trips on Nantucket, taught Spanish to children on Cape Cod, and worked for two years in rural Panama for a conservation NGO training farmers in organic agriculture techniques, teaching English and environmental education in a village school, and leading rainforest expeditions for groups of American high school students. In 2013, Ms. Prior-Grosch earned her M.S. in Environmental Policy and M.A.T. in Biology from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Her experiences student teaching in upstate New York and recent immigrants in the South Bronx solidified her desire to teach in New York City. Ms. Prior-Grosch currently teaches Earth Science and has taught Spanish, AP Biology, Living Environment, Environmental Science, and Forensics courses previously at AFSE. Ms. Prior-Grosch is also the Vice President of Few for Change, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships that enable indigenous students in Panama to stay in school. Ms. Prior-Grosch is the recipient of a 2016 Math for America Early Career Teacher Fellowship and a 2018 Fund for Teachers grant; she spent a month during summer 2018 traveling in Colombia and Ecuador exploring geological phenomena including volcanic activity, hotspots, plate tectonics, glaciers, and associated ecosystems.
