Ms. Towne's Bio

Model Teacher Ms. Meredith Towne has been working in urban education for the last 13 years in New York City. Currently, at AFSE, she teaches AP Language and Composition (ELA 11) and Senior Writing Seminar (ELA 12) as well as an advisor to an amazing group of Seniors. Throughout her teaching career, she has prided herself on bringing both innovative and collaborative partnerships into her classroom. Some of partnerships include: Shakespeare Teaches Students (BAM), The Shakespeare Theatre (Brooklyn), Poet’s House, The Moth, National Novel Writing Month, The Advice Project with Lisa Podell, The Vineyard Theatre, New York University Theatre for Young Audiences workshop as well as Verbatim Theatre Project with NYU Program in Educational Theater, and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights - Speak Truth To Power.

 

Ms. Towne also serves as a Mentor Teacher of first-year educators at AFSE.  She holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Hunter College (2017), a Masters in Educational Theatre and English from New York University (2008) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Production from the University of Arizona in Tucson (2002). 

 

Ms. Towne is originally from Seattle, Washington but gets to call herself a New Yorker because she has lived here for more than 10 years.  She is currently working on her memoir, loves paint by number and baking and lives with her husband Charlie and their dog Rose in Brooklyn.
