Mr. Kayel's Bio
Mr. Kayel was born and raised on Long Island, NY. When he was born, he could not walk or talk, and had to communicate through sounds and wails. After about a year, like many others, he became mobile and was slowly building his vocabulary. He honed his craft, and after years of practicing, decided to follow the path of the educator—like his mother. Mr. Kayel studied English—Adolescent Education at the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. Now, Mr. Kayel is on his path to earning a Master’s degree.
While he is only 25 years old (I know, right?), Mr. Kayel has years of experience in teaching. How can that be? Well, Mr. Kayel debuted as a teacher, when he worked as a teacher’s assistant for a BOCES summer camp at 16 years old. While working, he realized how fun it was to share knowledge and work with kids, so he continued to look for teaching experiences. Over his Summer breaks during college, he worked at a Preschool on Long Island—Kiddie Academy—and took substitute teaching gigs during the school year. At one point, he was a regular at a school that he would end up student teaching at—Westfield Academy and Central School District.
Mr. Kayel is an entertainer at heart, so it is no surprise that his pedagogy finds its foundations in gamification—teaching through play. In his lessons, he incorporates drawing, simulations, and games to teach and assess ELA skills. He tries his hardest every day to make school meaningful and fun, and to make students feel seen and safe.
