Mr. Collington's Bio
Leon Collington (Otherwise known as Mr Collington or Mr C.) Is a Special Education Teacher who is New to AFSE. Although he is new to teaching in DOE, he is also a former DOE student himself, attending a variety of DOE schools before graduating from Harry S. Truman High School. Mr Collington has also previously worked in charter schools and private school environments. His goal is to make sure students have fair access to education. This is in addition to providing each student what they will need to succeed in the classroom in addition to having success outside the classroom. Mr Collington is also currently a NYC Teaching Fellow.
Mr Collington first began his education career as a substitute teacher in NYC for Kokua before being officially hired in a charter school. The first charter school he worked at was NYC Charter School of the Arts, where he worked in various educational roles from 2021 to 2024. From there he then worked at Richmond Preparatory Charter School & Quad Preparatory School in the 2024-2025 school year before working for AFSE.
Mr Collington has a BA in Studio Art from the City College of New York in 2015 and is working on earning his masters in Education from Pace University, through the NYC Teaching Fellows. He is passionate about Art just as much as he is about supporting all students in education. Mr Collington has a variety of hobbies, such as Art, Anime/Cartoons, Basketball and more. As a former DOE student, he sees many of the similar challenges the students must face that are like what he also had to face growing up. He hopes to see many of his students graduate and have success not just in their education, but also success in their future
