College Awareness Day is an important part of the City’s College Access for All initiative, and it fosters a college and career culture in the next generation of graduates. AFSE staff showed their college pride by wearing shirts and buttons of their alma maters.
Additionally, we had four AFSE alumni address our 11th & 12th grade students. They all shared their experience with college and some advice for our students. They all had similar messages about time management and the importance of meeting deadlines, and the room was silent while listening to our alumni speak. They even asked them questions about student loans and debt, as well as how to know what's important to take notes on in a lecture. Some students even took notes!
Days like these are important for our students to experience because they can see the immediate and long term benefits of college awareness!
