Resource Fair at The Shed

Resource Fair

Context about Open Arms Resource Fairs at The Shed:
Throughout New York City, there are over 150,000 individuals living in temporary housing shelters - almost a third of whom are school-aged children. Additionally, this number grows daily, by an average of about 130 individuals (or 65 households). The Shed recognizes that the need in our city (and in our own neighborhood) is deep and ongoing. In order to support our newest New Yorkers and all families in temporary housing, The Shed has partnered with the Manhattan Response Team to plan and host quarterly resource fairs, connecting thousands of individuals to dozens of organizations who provide vital resources for families new to NYC - from food assistance programs to immigration services to health insurance registration, vaccinations, dental screenings, and free eyeglasses.

Our next Resource fair will take place on Saturday, June 8th from 10:00am - 3:00pm at The Shed (545 West 30th Street, between 10th - 11th avenues). We would love for you to join us!

We're especially looking for folks who are linguistically gifted - there's space on the form linked below to indicate if you speak Spanish, French, Farsi, Russian, and/or Portuguese. But/and, this day is a massive effort and we'll need all kinds of support. Please feel free to sign up for a time that works for you, and to share this link with anyone who may be interested. Please fill out the volunteer form here by EOD, Thursday, May 16th, and we will reach out in the coming weeks as we assign folks based on their preferences and availability.

If you have any questions before June, feel free to reach out to Christal Ferreira ([email protected]), or [email protected]. Thank you again for your support!

Together, we will continue to codify and scale these efforts to stay responsive and committed to our civic purpose.

With gratitude,

The Shed Civic Team
