New York Road Runners is excited to introduce NYRR Run for the Future – a free program that introduces young women* in high school—10th, 11th and 12th grades—to running. The program starts in the summer when participants train to run their first 5K together, creating connections that last beyond the program. New York Road Runners' approach provides young women with the tools and support needed to meet their self-care and physical activity goals, building their confidence and motivation to stay active for life. Students do not have to self-identify as runners or have experience in running or sports are encouraged to apply. The 2025 NYRR Run for the Future application is now open!
Participants receive:
- New Balance running gear and sneakers.
- MetroCard to travel to practice.
- Support from NYRR’s program team and coaching staff.
- Healthy snacks and a fitness kit to support their training to run their very first 5K (3.1-mile) race!
At the conclusion of the summer program, participants join a network of alumnae, with opportunities to participate in our year-round program.
This program includes:
- Networking opportunities – Connect with like-minded individuals and industry leaders through exclusive events designed to expand their network.
